A day with Aunty

Since my mom went on vacation and had a little fight with a step and lost she has had to have surgery and have pins put in her arm.
She is my child care every other friday while I work at the hair school and every other saturday when I am doing clients.
Having a full arm cast has odviously made this not possible now since she can't lift Leo
(even though he is a peanut he has a little junk in the trunk....K, not really but he isn't a new born anymore!)
I have been looking for alternate child care for him and trying to decide if I should just put him in daycare on fridays.
Fortunately my sister has stepped up and said she will fill in for mom on her fridays.
Yesterday was the first go at it.
He was in one piece when I got home and she still had all her wits in order so I would say it was a success. The part that makes it a little tricky is my little ginger niece is only 3 months old so that makes double the diapers to change (we both do cloth) and double the babes to entertain.
Although at this point Chloe is pretty happy just watching Leo run around and laugh.
He will often stop to give her a kiss or hold her hand.
He is going to be a good little protector of his little cousin.
They are going to be each others first best friends. Leo is going to play with barbies and ponies at her house and she is going to play with cars and blocks at ours.
Although having a hairstylist for a mother may lead him to do a few girly things at home too!
The day went well....and a little sledding practice was had by Leo riding the baby gate down the stairs.
(it doesn't fit right so maybe we should screw it to the wall since this is his second tumble down those stairs!?)

Pumpkin Patch

We have gotten into the groove of house cleaning on the weekends.
While Leo was napping I made a batch of perogies because I was hosting sunday dinner due to the mama having a broken arm.
I was short on potatos so I had to add a sweet potato that I had on hand.
According to my sister and from the last time we made them I need to work on my shaping as mine turned out slightly demented looking compared to her cheemo looking ones.
These turned out good....shaping came out better and nothing is better than home made!
 (and grandmas recipe)
Last weekend we decided to do something fun as a family so we loaded into the car and headed out to Prairie Gardens in Bon Accord.
Unfortunately the weather wasn't really cooperative.
They have a petting zoo farm there.
Leo is too little to know the difference so he thought it was helarious to pet the little goats.
Fortunate for the cold they weren't smelly.....or maybe goats aren't?! I don't know!
Most of our time besides the goat petting was spent inside.
They have a ton of pumpkins to pick from and a few tents to run around in.

Pumpkin picking was a little difficult for him with his mitts on and he was getting a little irritated but it was too cold to take them off. Mostly he wanted to throw them around anyways!
I found this double butt pumpkin that looks neat...not sure if we will carve it yet.

A Halloween Theme Bday

Our little friend Lalaina had her halloween theme 4th bday party today.
All the little ones had their costumes on....the girls in their dresses and the superhero/animal boys.
Leo was the youngest one this point he is just enthralled to stand and watch other kids.
They were a little too big and a lot to fast for him to keep up.
Pinterest is bringing out the competitivness in all the moms I know.
Lisa did a great is time consuming doing all those little details!
Here is my little superman chowing down:
A few other superheros in attendance:
A super cute snack table:
Thanks to pinterest for instilling all these genius ideas in all our parties
Cheese eyeballs & cookie spiders
Unfortunately I didn't manage to get a picture of the beautiful little birthday princess as she was having too good of a time with all her other little princess friends.

A Rolling babe and a broken Gigi!

My parents are on holidays in the maritimes.
My mom wanted to see the change in the season and eat good seafood.
My parents help us out, a lot.
Between building us a deck, hanging various things around the house and taking care of the peanut, (thats just at our house and not including what they do for my sister)
on top of both working full time, they are busy.
They deserved a trip and we are all happy for them.
Unfortunately though my mama has broken her elbow by missing a stair.
The pain that must be I can't imagine.
Poor mama.
Nothing is more devestating than looking forward to something for so long and then for it to get ruined by an accident.
Someone around here missed a stair a few days ago too.
Fortunately baby bones are soft and pliable so nothing was broken.
I think he was more scared from my screaming "Oh My God" behind him.
That's right, I had a bad mom moment and Leo rolled down the stairs (naked to boot!).
All I have to say is thank god for carpet and the super thick underlay that we have.
He is fine and it is long forgotten about in his little mind.
He tried to escape bedtime that night by waddling (mermaid style) to the door in his sleep sack.

Shower Time!

My sisters BFF is expecting a little man.
There didn't seem to be a shower planned so Jess felt that she should give her one.
Your first baby you HAVE to have a shower!
What that meant by my sister is planning it is that "We" are planning it.
We set the menu, which I changed a few days before just for ease on our parts.
Now, before we get to the food I feel like I need to explain something.
My husband is Italian....hence I am now part italian.
(when it comes to the feeding people part anyways)
We make a don't want to run out of food, that would be embarassing.
And, when italians go to such an event they expect there to be a lot of food, and they eat a lot of food.
This shower had NO italians (unless I count, which is a stretch)
We decided to go do a desert theme which was super easy and looked great!
I think it is funny how everyone is so polite and won't eat until they are told.
Even after the "go" signal no one really ate a lot. What the heck?
There were a few hits (thanks pinterest) that everyone went back for 2nds of.
The first was chocolate filled strawberries.
Simply hallow out your strawberries, fill with melted milk choc chips and refrigerate for 20min.
The second thing was a pumpkin dip.
Buy a small pumpkin and hallow it out to serve the dip in and serve it with apple slices and graham cookies.
Here is the recipe:
Pumpkin Dip:
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 cup frozen whipped cream, thawed
  • Gingersnap cookies, apples, or cinnamon graham cracker sticks
1)In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
2)Add in pumpkin, sour cream, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and ginger. Mix well.
3)Fold in the thawed whipped cream.
4)Serve with green apples, graham cracker sticks, or gingersnaps.
         5)Store in refrigerator.
The mama to be was happy and enjoyed the party.
Everyone got to load up plates to take home so I guess the men in our lives enjoyed it too.
    On a funny note:
When I was pregnant with Leo I went to Lizzy's (expecting mama) bridal shower.
The next day my water broke and Leo arrived 2 weeks early.
This baby shower had 4 expecting mama's there....and one of them went into labour and had her baby after the party.
Apparently Lizzy's parties are labour inducing!

    Halloween Howls

I am a slightly competitive neighbour.I like to outdo everyone on the block.
The first step is admitting it, right!?
We are setting up a haunted house in our garage this year.
The only question is: at what age do you not chase kids with a chainsaw?
They may run into the street and get hit by a car.
    Hmmmm.....maybe not a good idea?
Watching the videos on youtube of this makes me piss myself laughing.
My poor little man is going to be terrorized with fear as he gets older.
My mom scared us and we screamed....once she thought I was seriously going to have a heartattack because I just stood there screaming with my arms in the air. It is really funny now!
    At the time....not so much.
    The cycle continues.
We made a trip to Wallmart recently.
(I HATE that store, but it was at a new one and it was early in the morning so the TPs weren't there yet)
I remember getting an email with a little kid in the cart terrified by this halloween baby.....guess what I found!
Only MY kid would LOVE that little monster. He was hugging and kissing him.
    I laughed my head off!!
My sister and I took the kids to get their halloween pics done together this week too.
What came first, the chicken or the egg?
I have also been getting my pinterest on looking for ideas for said haunted house, and I got a little sidetracked with rinestones.
My mom always tells me I am a crow like my grandma was...we like everything shiny.
Crow, Dragqueen, its all the same, right?!
